AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer

Job Description:  KY CASA is currently seeking qualified people to assist local CASA sites throughout Kentucky.  VISTA Members will assist in fundraising, grant-writing, public-relations, marketing volunteer recruitment and management.  Aforementioned job duties will vary from site to site depending on need of the local CASA site and experience of VISTA Member.  In addition, VISTA Members will provide assistance to the state wide CASA organization in organizing statewide conference and training sessions.  VISTA Members will also be required to attend a variety of trainings and workshops to enhance their skills.  There are currently VISTA position available in:

Fayette County (Lexington), Boyle and Mercer Counties (Danville), Madison County (Richmond), Franklin County (Frankfort), Boone County (Burlington), Bullit County (Shephersville), Warren, Barren and Metcalfe Counties (Bowling Green), Hopkins County (Madisonville), Davies County (Owensboro), Henderson County (Henderson), Calloway Country (Murray), and Graves County (Mayfeild).

Qualifications:  Must be 18 years or older and a U.S. citizen, or lawful permanent alien resident of the U.S.  Bachelors degree preferred.  Applicants with two years of higher education and/or relative experience will be reviewed and considered for VISTA positions.

Member Benefits:    A living stipend paid every two weeks via direct deposit. For KY CASA the approximate average stipend comes to $805.00 (before taxes). Health Insurance provided through Seven Corners. This covers any health related issues diagnosed during year of service. This plan does not cover existing conditions. Includes EMERGENCY DENTAL ONLY (Sponsors may opt to pay additional, supplemental dental coverage).   PharmaCare: A prescription plan which can cover medications for pre-existing conditions. This plan covers most medications’ total cost.  Education Award or Cash stipend.   Education Award of $ 4,725.00 is awarded after 12 months of service  in the form of a voucher which can be used to pay educational expenses in the form of Federal student loans OR to be used in the future for graduate level or other education for up to 7 years.  Members may take a taxable Cash Stipend of $1,200 in place of Education Award.   Housing. Sponsors or sites can assist by finding low income or free of charge housing or can pay rental subsidy ($200.00 max per month) directly to landlord but not to member. Child Care: Depends on total household income; must not get subsidized child care; up to 2 children or $300.00 per month; close relatives can qualify as caregivers.
